Work slowly continues at the new Coopers Kitchen and Bar on Southgate, Elland.  After our success with setting up Roots Wholefood shop, also based on Southgate, Rhodes Joinery & Building Services Ltd purchased the old Cooper Kitchens hardware shop (Once a part of the historical Cooper Kitchen property for those with an interest in the Penny Farthing Bikes) and have been in the process of converting it into a new bar and restaurant.  Because of the pandemic we have been careful to take this project slowly rather than rush into opening too soon and hopefully we now have an end in sight.

Having already purchased and converted a part of what was the old Wheatsheaf pub into our offices, we could see what a vibrant town Elland was capable of becoming once again.  A historical market town that is mentioned in the Doomsday Book, Elland has a wealth of history.

Having been bypassed by the A629 coming from Ainley Top off the M62 towards Halifax the town found itself with buildings left empty and with no purpose largely due to a lack of traffic coming through the town.  The change over the last couple of years is now starting to make all the difference with the regenerated Friday Market, fantastic cafe’s, new bars and independent shops springing up to complement our historical pubs as local people began to invest and believe in the town again.  Elland has also secured funding to regenerate the town centre and work should begin on building a new train station once plans are finally approved.
